Youth Health Care informs about preventive general checks on children's health, development, and well-being at school.

ORANJESTAD—The Division of Youth Health Care (Jeugdgezondheidszorg/JGZ) of the Department of Public Health (DVG) offers information on general preventive checks on children's health, growth, and well-being.

It takes place every year at various schools in Aruba.

General health check

All checks promote and protect children's health and well-being so that more children in Aruba can grow and develop healthily. Youth Health Care doctors are the same individuals who examine and monitor the health and development of infants at White Yellow Cross and continue to do so during school hours.

During the school period, doctors and nurses from Youth Health Care perform general monitoring in collaboration with parents, schools, and, if necessary, other health care providers.
They visit primary, preparatory, and special schools to do general health examinations on children according to school-recommended practices and inform the parents accordingly. The check includes physical health (such as weight, height, motor skills, hearing, vision, heart, and so on), social-emotional health (such as emotions, experiences, friends, and so on), and also information from parents or schools that may contribute to the child's health. The Youth Health Department, if necessary, in consultation with the parents, will advise or refer the child to receive needed help or support.

Youth Health Department

The preventive care of the Youth Health Department starts in childhood and extends into the teenage years. We are committed to ensuring that all children grow up healthy and protected in their development and well-being. The Youth Health Department contributes to this, based on the rights of children, among others: the right to good health care, the right to education, and also the right to a name and nationality, without discrimination and without excluding others.

The Youth Health Department asks parents to fill out a form given at school and return it to the teacher within two weeks for general preventive health checks.
