You can now pay motor vehicle tax for 2025.
ORANJESTAD – The Tax Department (DIMP) announces that all motorists can now begin paying the motor vehicle tax for 2025.
It allows taxpayers to make payments earlier, giving them more financial flexibility to meet their fiscal obligations. Taxpayers can pay the motor vehicle tax in one lump sum or multiple installments using the partial payment option.
The motor vehicle tax rate for 2025 remains the same as in previous years.
The new 2025 license plates are valid for five years up until 2029. DIMP issues two large license plates for each motor vehicle that is not a motorcycle or scooter. It will no longer issue small plates as in the past. The cost for the large plates is Afl. 14.00, while the small plates for motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters will cost Afl. 10.00. When paying the tax, it includes an additional Afl. 14,00 or Afl. 10,00 to receive the new license plates.
To make it as easy as possible for taxpayers, DIMP offers the option of installment payments. Motor vehicle tax can be paid in installments by taxpayers in advance. Taxpayers have five months to complete their payments before the January 31, 2025 deadline. They can spread the financial burden over the coming months by paying ahead. It is advantageous for taxpayers who may be facing financial difficulties or who own more than one vehicle. For companies with multiple cars, it is also convenient to use the installment payment service.
The conditions for the installment payment service are as follows:
- The tax must be paid in advance, meaning before January 31, 2025.
- You must pay monthly
- The minimum payment required is Afl. 50 or Afl. 200 (depending on the license plate category).
- You can pay no less than Afl. 50,00 unless the remaining amount is lower.
- The final payment is no later than January 31, 2025.
The installment payment service is only valid for motor vehicle tax.
Minimum Payment Depends on the License Plate Category
The minimum monthly payment depends on the category in which the vehicle is registered. Below is a scheme outlining the details.
License plate category | Minimum amount to pay per month |
A, V, MFA, MFV, TR, V, B (small bus), AG, BR, GAR | Afl. 50 |
B (large bus), Name plates, DT, O, T | Afl. 200 |
DIMP recommends taxpayers pay via the online banking system of Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or CMB, using the “Bill Payment” method.
To properly process online payments, it is essential to include the following information:
- The registered personal number of the vehicle.
- The license plate number.
- The billing period (for example, Jan-Jun 2025).
Those using the installment payment facility and paying via the bank can request the online receipt after completing the final tax payment. You can also visit the main office in Camacuri, the MFA locations, or the Post Aruba building in San Nicolas to pay the motor vehicle tax.
January 31, 2025, is the last day to pay the tax for the first half of 2025.
Vehicles under the MFA, MFV categories, and custom license plates must pay the tax in full for 2025 before January 31, 2025. After January 31, 2025, you can no longer pay the tax in installments for the first half of 2025.
Taxpayers with overdue motor vehicle tax can only pay the 2025 tax after clearing the overdue balance. These taxpayers can either pay the overdue amount in one go or arrange a payment plan for the debt up to and including 2024. The payment plan includes a maximum term of 3 months. Therefore, taxpayers must pay the overdue balance within three payments. To pay the 2025 tax, the taxpayer must pay at least one installment of the overdue balance.
Do not wait until the January 31, 2025, deadline to pay the tax.
Taxpayers risk a 50% penalty for non-compliance if they do not pay or pay late. Make the tax payment in one go or in multiple timely installments and avoid unnecessary costs.
