Three police officers were honored for their swift action against an armed suspect.
ORANJESTAD – At the end of February 2025, Chief Commissioner Arnhem summoned three police colleagues to report to the Santa Cruz Police Station to thank them for their swift and effective response.
During the Jouvert Morning Parade, a shooting took place behind Julio’s Bar in San Nicolas. At that moment, a crowd of people was enjoying Jouvert Morning, and to make matters more critical, the parade was passing by at the time of the shooting.
Officers Nicholson, De Castro, and Phillip sprang into action. These were crucial moments in which they had to act within seconds. To their surprise, the officers encountered the suspect walking in their direction with a firearm in hand. In a tactical, effective, and firm manner, they took immediate action, bringing the suspect to the ground and handcuffing him on the spot.
Given the high risk posed by the presence of a large crowd, the swift police intervention that led to the quick arrest of the suspect after the shooting is something to be applauded.
For this reason, Chief Commissioner Arnhem saw it as essential to honor the three officers with the highest token of gratitude, the “certificate of commendation.” It adds extra value to their police careers.
Chief Commissioner Arnhem assures the community that the police force is committed to keeping our society safe.
