The sewage treatment plant (STP) plant in Parkietenbos resumes operation.
ORANJESTAD - The facilities of the Parkietenbos Sewage Treatment plant resumed its operation on November 25.
The facility could not handle the incoming waste because it was not being maintained, resulting in its shutdown in March 2024.
The government, recognizing how urgent it is to get this facility up and running, decided to privatize it and put it in the hands of a company with the capacity to invest and repair the plant.
The properties have been transferred to Aruba Wastewater Sustainable Solutions (AWSS), which will make the required investments after the privatization law's approval in parliament.
Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes indicated that this is an important day, considering that for those who transport the wastewater, especially the septic tank trucks, this is a great relief since they no longer have to go to Zeewijk. With this plant open, the septic tank trucks can take the garbage to the plant free of charge and get an optimal service. With the machines in operation again, the facility can process the waste without causing disturbance.
