ORANJESTAD - The government decreed November 6 as the national date to remember the heroes who perished during World War II.

On Friday morning, Parke Boy Ecury Foundation celebrated this date in the presence of the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, President of Parliament Raymond Kamperveen, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever Croes, Minister of Culture and Finance Xiomara Maduro, representatives of Parliament of Aruba and special guests.

The Prime Minister indicated that November 6 became a reality thanks to the request that the Parke Boy Ecury Foundation made to the Government of Aruba, and the government fulfilled their wish and decreed November 6 as the day to remember the heroes, who lost their lives during World War II. On this day, Aruba stands still and remembers all the heroes of World War II, particularly Boy Ecury, who was part of the Dutch resistance and executed at 22 years old in the Netherlands for his resistance work. He died as a hero and not as a traitor. Aruba will never forget the phrase of Boy Ecury; "In my father's house, there is no place for traitors."

The prime minister congratulated the foundation and thanked them for their significant contribution. This lovely park, a private endeavor of Mr. de Veer and the foundation, illustrates the history of Aruba from the Antilles to the moment Aruba gained its Status Aparte.
