The Department of Meteorology issued a warning for excessive heat
ORANJESTAD -The weather conditions during the next 24 hours indicate that the high humidity and the light wind will cause us to experience a warmer day than usual.
Temperatures will reach 35 to 36 degrees Celsius during the day and will not drop less than 29 degrees Celsius at night. It will increase the danger for people who cannot find a suitable place to cool their bodies.
Heat waves pose the largest and most immediate climate-related threat to public health
People must prepare for the danger that excessive heat causes. Young children, seniors, and people with heart disease are the most vulnerable. Limit outdoor activity to early morning or sunset hours. If you have a working air conditioner, use it or open a window to let air pass and circulate.
Precautionary action
An excessive heat warning means that a period of high temperatures is expected.
The high temperatures and humidity create a situation in which illness caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures may occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay away from the sun, and wear light-colored clothes, preferably white.
