The 16th edition of Arte di Palabra (AdP) will take place this April 5, 2025.

ORANJESTAD – The Department of Culture Aruba (DCA) is hosting the 16th edition of the project ‘Arte di Palabra’ (AdP),

This competition focuses on storytelling and short stories and writing and reciting poetry for school students.

The DCA has been hosting this annual competition for secondary school students since 2009, and young people have expressed enthusiasm in taking part.

Arte di Palabra will be held at Cas di Cultura on April 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Admission is free, and the doors will open at 4:30 PM.

Participating schools include Juliana School, Colegio Arubano, Ceque College MAVO, Maria School, Abraham de Veer, Mon Plaisir MAVO and HAVO, Colegio Nigel Matthew, and EPI.

This project aims to provide young people with the opportunity to showcase their literary creativity, promote reading and writing in Papiamento, and encourage the publication of literary art in Papiamento.

The DCA collaborates with Fundacion Corectornan Papiamento Aruba in this project. Through the Arte di Palabra competition, DCA encourages young participants to use Papiamento correctly and enrich their language knowledge through poetry or short stories.

When publishing cultural information, DCA makes sure it is published in the correct Papiamento. For official texts, the DCA uses the Vocabulario Ortografico di Papiamento of 2009.

Language is considered the most important unifying element of a culture. It carries all human thoughts and experiences, culture, and identity. Recognizing this, the DCA considers Papiamento a crucial component of cultural education.

Spelling, language, and literature in the mother tongue are highly significant symbols that reflect one's identity. It is essential to show that the official recognition of the language can foster appreciation and encourage us to learn, promote, and use our native language correctly with pride and love.

As the Papiamento language continues to develop, the Departamento di Cultura Aruba, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, remains committed to educating, promoting, protecting, and increasing the correct use of our language for future generations.
