Survey “What do we eat?” with DVG. CBS, IBISA, WEB Aruba NV, and other stakeholders.
ORANJESTAD – The Department of Public Health (DVG), IBiSA, and WEB Aruba NV recently announced a survey called “What do we eat?”
“What do we eat?” is a "Total Diet Study" (TDS) that provides valuable nutritional information for public health. The last available data from a TDS conducted in Aruba dates back to 1993.
DVG’s management team member, Judelca Briceño, announced a significant program/project within the population nutritional health framework. DVG conducted the STEPS Survey in 2023, which provided insights into obesity and overweight in Aruba.
The survey data showed that 79% of the population is overweight, of which 46% are obese. It is a critical sign that DVG should create initiatives that can address this problem, lessen the effects of overweight and obesity, and avert further health issues in partnership with the Aruban community.
These numbers are a critical sign that DVG should create initiatives that can address this problem, lessen the effects of overweight and obesity, and avert further health issues in partnership with the Aruban community.
Following the results of the STEPS Survey, DVG found it essential to use this data and, after many years, conduct another crucial study for Aruba. The scientific study will give DVG a better understanding of the nutritional content of the Aruban population diet.
We frequently eat without being fully aware of what our food contains and its specific components. Once the results of this study are available, DVG will have a clearer picture of what the population consumes. It will help DVG and stakeholders develop intervention and management programs that can assist the government and public agencies in better educating the community and adapting our diet to a healthier lifestyle.
The survey will take place between March 24 and June 30, 2025.
