STEPS 2023: Results of the investigation on high blood pressure

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - In 2023, the Department of Public Health (DVG), in collaboration with WHO/PAHO and the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), organized a national survey named STEPS 2023.

The goal of STEPS 2023 was to collect valuable information about the health of our community so that organizations responsible for public health management could get an updated view of the population's health and understand the risk factors that can lead to chronic diseases. By identifying these risk factors, different organizations can work on new strategies focused on improving the health of our people.

Regarding high blood pressure, STEPS concluded that 19% of Aruba's adult population has high blood pressure. Among those aged 18 to 29, 9% have high blood pressure, and 43% of those aged 60 to 69 have high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases with age and is more common among men than women. High blood pressure can lead to heart problems, artery issues, vision loss, kidney problems, and stroke.
