Prime Minister met with the Dutch Kingdom Ambassador in Caracas.
ORANJESTAD - On Monday, March 24, outgoing Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes met with the Dutch Kingdom Ambassador stationed in Caracas, Mrs. Carmen Gonsalves.
Although a new government has not yet been formed in Aruba, the Prime Minister continues to attend meetings crucial for Aruba. The relationship between Aruba and Venezuela is significant. However, due to the humanitarian crisis, human rights violations, and political upheaval in Venezuela, the relationship between the two countries is under pressure.
Closed border
During the meeting, they discussed the border closure. The border remains closed for various reasons, and Aruba's government departments are working on their recommendations regarding this matter. The Prime Minister committed to transferring all information regarding the decision to keep the border with Venezuela closed to the new government.
Decision by the U.S. government Another point of discussion was the situation with President Trump's administration in the United States, including the cancellation of Chevron's license to operate in Venezuela and its potential impact on Aruba. They also addressed the commercial relationship between Venezuela and Aruba. Ambassador Gonsalves indicated a considerable interest in Venezuela from people who want to visit Aruba, something Aruba should consider.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister presented the Ambassador with a scarf featuring a design of the Kibrahacha tree and explained that this is a robust tree. She gives this scarf to strong women, recognizing the strength of the Kibrahacha in them. The Ambassador, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister for all the years of cooperation with the Embassy and for her role in the International Feminist Policy, where the Prime Minister took a strong position at the international level for all women in Aruba and within the Kingdom.
