Prime Minister meets with U.S. Consul General for Aruba.

ORANJESTAD - On March 19, outgoing Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes and outgoing Minister of Justice Rocco Tjonmet with the U.S. Consul General for Aruba, Mr. Ramon Negron, stationed in Curacao.

The United States is the country with which Aruba has a crucial relationship regarding our economic development, tourism, and security. The Consul General visited Aruba for the Anthem and Flag Day celebration and was present at the reception in honor of all consuls in Aruba on March 17.

During the meeting, they discussed various topics, but the main one was migration, a sensitive topic for the U.S. and whose effects Aruba has been feeling for some time. The situation in Venezuela remains delicate, and Aruba's geographic position, only 38 km from Venezuela, and the migratory impact Venezuela has on Aruba have been an agenda point during meetings with the U.S. to manage this in the best possible way.

During the meeting, they addressed economic opportunities, education, and security. Aruba is an important partner for the U.S. in maintaining this region's security. Aruba has, on several occasions, intercepted smuggling, including drugs and weapons, in the waters around Aruba. It helps to keep the region safer and prevents smuggling from reaching its destination, such as the U.S. All these matters show that Aruba and the U.S. have a very close relationship, and it is crucial to maintain it.
