Presentation of the literary work “Di Zuidstraat pa Klei” by Denis Henriquez.

ORANJESTAD – The National Library of Aruba in Oranjestad will present Denis Henriquez's literary works on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM.  

Denis Henriquez, born in Aruba, is a well-known author who writes in Papiamento, English, and Dutch. He graduated as a theoretical physicist from Leiden University in the Netherlands and worked as a physics and mathematics teacher in Aruba and the Netherlands.

He published various literary works, including novels, poetry, theater, and film scripts. Zuidstraat, his debut novel, is his best-known work in Aruba. Zuidstraat, Delft Blues, De zomer van Alejandro Bulos, Het sterven van Rebecca Lopez Ikario, and his most recent book, Klei, released in 2023, are some of his works.

Program:

The literary works of one of Aruba's best authors, Denis Henriquez, will be featured in a comprehensive program presented by Cultural Manager Mirto Laclé, DCA Director Siegried Dumfries, and BNA Director Astrid Britten. There will be music, presentations, talks, and a documentary that evening.

Dr. Wim Rutgers will discuss Denis Henriquez's book "From Zuidstraat to Klei" in further detail. Dr. Denis Henriquez will discuss his life experiences and the inspiration behind his writing, while Dr. Mirto Laclé will evaluate these pieces.

Maybelline Arends-Croes, a music teacher, will be present with her singing group, former Young Voices, to perform songs inspired by Denis Henriquez’s texts. Pianist Johnny Scharbaay will accompany the singers and play a musical selection throughout the evening.
