Parliament approves World War II Memorial at Seroe Colorado

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - On Thursday, February 27, the Parliament of Aruba discussed the budget for the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF) 2024, which includes a hold of 350 thousand florins destined for the World War II Memorial.

The World War II Monument, which will anchor Aruba's heritage, will become an attraction providing a unique experience for our local community and visitors. The location of the monument is Seroe Colorado, in San Nicolas.

Aruba Amenities will be responsible for the World War II Memorial. The committee's objective is to upgrade and enhance Aruba's heritage and create new experiences for our community and visitors, following the model of the Orange Economy. The project is a collaboration between DOW, ATA, and Mr. Dufi Kock.

With the World War II Memorial the focus will be on the crucial role Aruba played during World War II as a supplier of fuel to American aircraft supporting the Allied forces against the German army. The German army, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, bombed Aruba to try to cut off the fuel supply to the US army. This bombardment resulted in the loss of several lives.

The government has already held discussions with tour operators interested in this project. Phase 2 will include a tourist tour of the refinery area to see what remains of the refinery that strategically supplied fuel to the Allies, contributing to the victory and end of World War II. This project will create a continuous flow of tourists to the center of San Nicolas, generating more commercial activities and boosting the area of San Nicolas.
