Noise reduction is a positive step towards hearing protection.

ORANJESTAD – This past weekend, Aruba experienced its first carnival parade of the season, dedicated to the creativity and imagination of our children.

As part of the advice given by the Department of Public Health Aruba (DVG) regarding hearing care and protection, it has been noted that there was a positive change in the sound levels from the sound companies during Sunday’s parade. In previous years, the noise level during the parade was around 115 dB, whereas on Sunday, most sound companies marked between 90 and 102 dB at their peak during measurement.

Although DVG’s guidelines recommend a maximum of 90 dB at a distance of 10 meters, they acknowledge that sound companies have made efforts to reduce the decibel levels. This demonstrates both their ability and their willingness to support the cause of hearing protection.

DVG and other stakeholders encourage the community to continue wearing earplugs. Lowering the decibel levels alone is not enough; individual responsibility is also required to wear earplugs and to ensure that children are protected at musical events.

DVG thanks the sound companies and their technicians for taking the first steps in noise reduction and encourages them to continue this effort in all parades until they reach the maximum limit of 90 dB. All changes take time, but with small steps and great determination, you can achieve a healthy, pleasant, and safe sound level for everyone.
