Minimum hourly wage approved that will come into effect in 2025

ORANJESTAD – The Council of Ministers recently approved the new hourly minimum wage after starting this process about two years ago.

This change is after extensive analysis and research that began in 2022 and is effective January 1, 2025.

The hourly minimum wage represents significant progress toward a fairer wage. All employees receive the same monthly salary regardless of the hours worked per week. With the implementation of the hourly minimum wage, it will guarantee a substantial increase, directly improving working conditions.

Starting January 1, 2025, all employees working 40 hours per week will receive a raise of Afl 20.85, with a monthly salary of AWG 2007.05 compared to AWG 1986.20. Employees working 45 hours per week will receive a raise of AWG 271.73, with a monthly salary of Afl 2257.93 compared to AWG 1986.20.

This increase provides fair compensation for the number of worked hours and promotes fair and productive working conditions. The hourly minimum wage allows all employees, especially in the hospitality industry, to receive pay proportional to their factual working hours.
