Launch of the Boekstart Project
ORANJESTAD - Boekstart is introducing a new case for babies, featuring new books and updated information.
Biblionef, the Dutch organization behind this project, has organized a tour called "Hallo Baby!" that travels across the Dutch Caribbean islands to promote this initiative. The tour began on Sint Maarten, Saba, and Sint Eustatius, Bonaire, and Curaçao, and will conclude in Aruba.
Children’s book author and illustrator Mylo Freeman wrote the book "Hallo Baby!" and will be present for the project’s launch. This event will take place in the Youth Section of the National Library of Aruba on Monday, February 10th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The library invites all parents in Aruba to this special presentation by the library with their infants ages 0 to 2.
Mylo Freeman will be in Aruba for a week to promote the Boekstart project. From February 10th to 14th, 2025, she will visit various preschools and daycare centers to tell stories and host workshops at the library.
The Boekstart suitcase contains books by Mylo Freeman in Dutch, translated into Papiamento and English, and a fabric book specially designed for little ones. The "Hallo Baby" presentation is one of the activities aimed at promoting reading among babies and their parents. Reading in one’s native language is crucial for language development. During the presentation, Mylo Freeman will use a kamishibai to tell stories. She will also provide parents with tips and advice on reading together with their baby and encourage their children to read. Every baby will receive a suitcase with books as a gift, and parents will have the opportunity to register their baby as a library member.
This is a special project by Boekstart and Biblionef, subsidized by the Nederlands Letterenfonds.
