Epilepsy Foundation Aruba is back.
ORANJESTAD – Epilepsy Foundation Aruba is officially back after a period of inactivity. The foundation now has a new board committed to expanding knowledge and support for people with epilepsy and their loved ones.
The official relaunch of the foundation took place on March 26, 2025, on "Purple Day," a globally recognized day to raise awareness about epilepsy. It marks the beginning of a more active approach to educating our community, providing support to people with epilepsy, and reducing negative perceptions surrounding this condition.
Why is "Purple Day" important?
In 2008, Cassidy Megan, a young girl from Canada, founded "Purple Day" to raise global awareness about epilepsy and to let people with epilepsy know they are not alone. On this important day, the new board of Epilepsy Foundation Aruba is relaunching the foundation and strengthening its mission to make epilepsy better understood within the community.
Future initiatives Part of the new vision includes various programs and projects such as:
- Seizure Smart Aruba: Public education and first aid training for epilepsy seizures.
- Purple Lights Aruba: A visual campaign to light up public buildings in purple.
- Epilepsy Voices: An initiative featuring real stories from people with epilepsy.
- Radio and TV programs: Awareness campaigns to break misconceptions about epilepsy and support those with epilepsy and their loved ones.
- Purple Gala Dinner: A fundraising dinner for future projects.
Epilepsy Foundation Aruba is happy to be back serving the Aruban community, reinforcing its commitment to raising awareness among the general population.
