DVG conducts inspections for recalled products infected with Hepatitis A.

ORANJESTAD - A public alert from the Netherlands' RIVM reporting Hepatitis A infections connected to the 1 kg product "Blauwe bessen" from the AH brand has been noted by the Department of Public Health (DVG).

Immediately, the DVG’s Inspection and Hygiene section conducted inspections and visited specific supermarkets known to sell products imported from the Netherlands.

One supermarket in Aruba sells this specific brand, Albert Heijn (AH). The DVG has notified this supermarket of the issue with the product, prompting them to remove all related products from their freezers. Although the DVG did not find the specific product with the matching production batch number, they advised the supermarket management to verify that they do not have these products in their warehouse. If so, they must dispose of the packages with expiration dates between April 2025 and April 2026.

The DVG is also calling on the community and the hotel sector to check if they have this product. If so, they strongly advise not to consume the product and to dispose of it, as it may be contaminated with the Hepatitis A virus. So far, the DVG has not recorded any cases of Hepatitis A linked to this product but will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Hepatitis A is caused by a virus that spreads from person to person, often through food or drink consumption contaminated by an infected individual. This can occur if an infected person uses the toilet and does not properly wash their hands. The Hepatitis A virus causes liver inflammation and symptoms such as diarrhea, fatigue, fever, joint pain, loss of appetite, and jaundice.
