Department of Civil Aviation with inspection actions at the Airport

ORANJESTAD - The Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba (DCA)  recently conducted a ramp audit at Reina Beatrix Airport, inspecting aircraft. It was a joint action with the Department of Civil Aviation of the French Antilles.

Aruba has a team of 4 inspectors qualified to conduct ramp audits according to the European "SAFA" (Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft) system. They include the results of these inspections in the SAFA database, which contains inspection results from other countries affiliated with SAFA, allowing for effective comparison and analysis of this data.

As part of a cooperation agreement with France, Aruba's inspectors conduct inspections with inspectors from the French Antilles, who are also part of the SAFA network. Sometimes, the inspections are in Aruba and sometimes in the French Antilles, which include Saint Martin, St-Barthélemy, Guadeloupe, and Martinique. This cooperation helps standardize working methods and facilitates mutual learning. This week, it was the turn of the French Antilles inspectors to conduct inspections in Aruba together with their Aruban colleagues.

The 17 inspections included all aircraft types, large and small, passenger and cargo. Any discrepancies found are reported to the relevant company so they can take the necessary corrective measures. The DCA monitors the implementation of these measures and required corrections.

Over the years, there has been a trend in Aruba showing that the number and severity of discrepancies found are decreasing. Aviation companies consider these inspections seriously and take preventive measures before flying to Aruba. It demonstrates the added value of the SAFA program, which genuinely contributes to improving the operational safety of aviation in Aruba.

The Civil Aviation Directorate of Aruba will continue to conduct these types of inspections to enhance operational safety and to ensure that this high level is maintained sustainably, given the importance of aviation to the country's economy.
