Colegio Arubano hosts Erasmus+ Deplastify The Planet.
ORANJESTAD - On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes welcomed over 30 international students and their teachers who came to Aruba for an exchange week as part of the sustainability project Erasmus+ Deplastify The Planet (DTP).
These students come from various European countries, including Belgium, Croatia, Austria, Portugal, and Spain, and are in Aruba for a unique collaboration with Colegio Arubano. The students have been working on this project for several months to ultimately present a book emphasizing the importance of reducing the use of plastic to ensure sustainability.
Plastic is a global issue, and Aruba is no exception. Much pollution, including plastic, comes from other countries through the sea. Plastic is a product that takes between 20 and 500 years to decompose because there are no microorganisms to break it down. Plastic poses a global challenge, and organizations worldwide are seeking ways to reduce the impact of plastic on the environment.
According to the Prime Minister, Aruba is one of the first countries in the region to ban the use of single-use plastics, and now intensive measures and initiatives are being taken to address this issue. Prime Minister Wever-Croes thanked Colegio Arubano for participating in this project, recognizing the dedication, energy, and efforts required to achieve this, and wished them success.
Additionally, the Prime Minister thanked all international students participating in this project and wished them success. She hopes they will leave with a good impression of Aruba and the government's sustainability policies.
