Cases of Yellow Fever in countries frequently visited by locals preoccupy the Department of Health (DVG).

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - Some countries in the South American region, such as Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Guyana, have been reporting since 2024 and early 2025 cases of Yellow Fever, also known as Yellow Fever, with a 50% fatal consequence.

Although in Aruba we do not have the disease of Yellow Fever at the moment, we can not rule out that if a person returns to Aruba from his trip from one of these countries with Yellow Fever, we may be confronted with cases and even an outbreak if as a community we do not take action to help prevent this.

The Aedes Aegypti mosquito (white-striped leg mosquito), present on our island, can transmit yellow fever. The mosquitos on our island do not carry the Yellow Fever virus. However, if the mosquito bites a person with Yellow Fever, it will be infected and transmit the virus to another person.

To care for and protect Aruba's Yellow Fever population, DVG introduced a few years ago the policy that all travelers from countries with Yellow Fever must be vaccinated against Yellow Fever to enter Aruba. But this policy does not protect our population from our locals who travel to these countries without vaccination against Yellow Fever, thinking that they will not be able to contract the virus and return with it to Aruba.

Through the information given, DVG appeals to all locals traveling to countries with Yellow Fever cases, namely, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Guyana, to remember to vaccinate at least 10 days before the trip. The Yellow Fever vaccine is a vaccine that provides lifelong protection with one single dose and is available in the Infectious Diseases section of DVG for Afl 31.
