Aruba’s Ombudsman participates in the Annual Ombudsman Conference of the Kingdom for the first time.
ORANJESTAD – On January 13, 14, and 15, 2025, Aruba hosted the Annual Ombudsman Conference of the Kingdom.
During this conference, the Ombudspersons discussed the most important developments within the Kingdom that are relevant to the work of an Ombudsman. On January 15, Vice Premier Xiomara Maduro received the Ombudspersons at the Government Office, where they discussed key aspects of the work of an Ombudsman.
Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes stated it was a historic event, as it was the first time Aruba had an Ombudsman participating in the conference. Additionally, Aruba was the host of the conference this year.
Present at the conference were Ombudsperson Ms. Jurima Bryson from Aruba, Mr. Keursly Concincion from Curaçao, Ms. Gwendolien Mossel from St. Maarten, and the National Ombudsman Mr. Reinier van Zutphen.
On Tuesday, January 14, His Excellency the Governor of Aruba, Mr. Alfonso Boekhoudt, received the Kingdom's Ombudspersons for an audience at the Governor’s Ceremonial House. That evening, the University of Aruba organized a lecture titled 'The Role and Significance of the Ombudsman' at the Maria Convent Chapel. During this event, the Ombudspersons presented the role and work of an Ombudsman and explained what it could mean for citizens. The University of Aruba organized this lecture to inform the community about the Ombudsman’s work, as this is a new service for Aruba, and to educate the public about the services an Ombudsman provides.
