Aruba present at the "International Labor Conference (ILO) 2024"

ORANJESTAD - Recently, the delegation from Aruba, led by Minister of Labor, Energy, and Integration Glenbert Croes, traveled to Geneva to participate in the "International Labor Conference (ILO) 2024".

This year, 187 countries participated in the conference, with over 5000 representatives from various governments, trade unions, business sectors, and other NGOs.

Aruba has been participating in this conference for many years, and this year it participated as part of a tripartite delegation consisting of government officials, union representatives, and business representatives. The Aruban delegation discussed how to protect the fundamental rights of workers: decent work, decent wages, and decent careers for workers in the healthcare sector, caring for children and elderly persons.

Aruba and Sint Maarten represented the Kingdom of the Netherlands during this conference. One of the goals of the ILO is to bring together all stakeholders, not only governments but also trade unions and commercial parties, to discuss important issues relevant to the countries involved.

Every year, discussions on matters significant to laborers take place, which helps raise national awareness of the numerous subjects discussed this year.

The Ministry of Labor in Aruba operates its committees in a tripartite fashion. The government will initiate a Social-Labor Tripartite conversation shortly, motivated by ILO's tripartite principles,

Minister Croes asserts that it is crucial to establish the tripartite structure as an ongoing framework for cooperative discussion and decision-making.
