Aruba Joins the Celebration of Earth Day 2025 with the Theme Our Power, Our Planet.

ORANJESTAD—We observed Earth Day on April 22, 2025, with the theme, 'Our Power, Our Planet.'

For future generations to enjoy a healthy world and be less reliant on fossil fuels, Earthday.org focuses on the value of renewable energy and the collaborative action we can take to protect our planet. Additionally, it promotes involvement in environmental conservation and action.

This year's topic, "Our Power, Our Planet" urges each of us to use our influence—as individuals, in our community, and in government—to support an urgent transition to a renewable/sustainable energy future.

Aruba is renowned for its distinctiveness and understands how urgent it is to fight climate change and promote sustainable practices. Our contributions, no matter how tiny, has an impact.
During Mother Earth Day 2025, various organizations will focus on best practices and advice and organize activities to raise awareness and stimulate action.

These actions may include:

  • Clean up the nature area. Volunteer to clean up our beaches, parks, and natural areas frequented by many. Take advantage of the 2025 camping season to gather with family and friends to keep the area free of litter.
  • Tree planting. Start initiatives to plant more local trees to strengthen our ecosystem. On the DNM Facebook page, you can find all the species of trees protected by local laws. But you can also plant other trees, such as silk trees (food for birds), fruit trees, or vegetables. DNM encourages the community to go out and find tall trees and measure them, thus contributing to the survey "Measure Our Trees" on their website. The goal is to register them to safeguard them as important trees in our ecosystem.
  • Educational workshops and presentations. Follow podcasts with informative sessions about renewable energy, water conservation, waste reduction, and other sustainability topics. Tune in to the DNM podcast, "Cadushi ta zona cu Dyrick," broadcast every 2 weeks on Thursdays. Tune in to this week's one with guests Mrs. Olinda Rasmijn, former president of Stimaruba, and Mr. Pancho Geerman of the Archaeological Museum.
  • Sustainable product and service exhibitions: Some local businesses offer ecological and sustainable alternative products. Consider using a reusable cup when picking up your morning cup of coffee, and use reusable shopping bags.
  • Social media awareness campaign: Post a post that promotes people sharing their commitment and actions for a healthier planet using the hashtags #EarthDayAruba, #OurPowerOurPlanet, #ourpowerourplanet, or #earthaccionday.

Aruba is committed to a sustainable green future and is actively working to diversify the economy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The celebration of Mother Earth Day 2025 is an opportunity to reaffirm this commitment and to encourage participation from all sectors of our community.
