Aruba celebrated a beautiful protocol ceremony on Betico Day
ORANJESTAD - On Thursday, January 25, the traditional protocol ceremony in honor of our freedom fighter G.F. Betico Croes took place on Betico Day.
In the presence of dignitaries, guests, and His Excellency Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt and his wife, the national anthem of Aruba, performed by Jorienne Angela, echoed on Betico Plaza, commencing the protocol ceremony.
Pastor Toti F. Fuentebella led a prayer and blessing, after which Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes delivered a speech to commemorate the Aruban statesman and his legacy, the impressive journey of Betico Croes, and his love for his native island, which served as his absolute motivation in his quest for Status Aparte.
The program continued with singing, poetry, and dance; young J-Vyon Besselink recited the poem "Ta E ta Betico," written by George Winterdaal. This act was followed by a dance performance by the Mini and Pre-Teen Chaz Dancers, directed by Chastity Kock-Hodge, to the rhythm of the song "Betico" by Ronny Kock.
Next was the floral tribute, where the Aruban Parliament, the Aruban government, the Croes family, the Betico Croes Foundation, and the Association of Consuls in Aruba laid wreaths at the statue of Betico.
The morning continued with two new songs composed by Edseline Figaroa and arranged by Rigel Isabella. Lizienne Webb presented the first song titled "Danki na Dje" (Thanks to You), while Jetzenia Martines premiered the second song titled "No tin nada pa kibr'e" (Nothing to Break It).
Minister of Culture Xiomara Maduro thanked all attendees for their presence, especially the children and grandchildren of Betico. She also thanked the National Holidays Celebration Committee for their valuable contribution to this event.
