World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week

ORANJESTAD - From November 18-24, we celebrate World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week.

When bacteria, viruses, and parasites stop reacting to antimicrobial treatments, this is known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This resistance raises the risk of main disease transmission by making medicines, antibiotics, and other therapies ineffective and making it harder or impossible to treat infections.

World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week is a global campaign to raise awareness and understanding of the use of drugs and antibiotics. The intention is to reduce the occurrence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

This year's theme is “Educate. Advocate. Act now.”

The overuse of antibiotics is one of the principal causes of antibiotic resistance.

How you can prevent:

  • Using antibiotics only when necessary;
  • Taking your antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor;
  • Do not use antibiotics prescribed by someone else or do not self-medicate.

Act now, be aware, and avoid developing drug resistance, which is crucial when fighting disease.
