Visit Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname Albert Ramchand Ramdin.
ORANJESTAD—The Prime Minister of Aruba, mr. Mike Eman held an official meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname, Albert Ramchand Ramdin, on Monday, April 14.
Sr. Ramdin will officially assume his new position this May 26, as Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), a key role for development in the hemisphere.
Trade opportunity and regional cooperation
The trade mission to Suriname a few months ago and the visit of the President of Suriname, Mr. Chan Santokhi, to Aruba in October last year, during which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, strengthened trade opportunities between the two sister countries. This MoU paves the way for different trade opportunities and strengthens regional cooperation.
During the meeting, they discussed the MoU content and the current concern related to the global geopolitical situation, which creates tension for Aruban importers seeking alternatives for the supply of consumer products. Last year's trade mission showed significant untapped potential in sea transportation, even with the difficulties, especially for containers between Suriname and Aruba.
A historical and family bond that unites our people
Prime Minister Eman thanked Minister Ramdin for his timely visit, recognizing that in a world of global uncertainty, a visit like this demonstrates the importance Suriname attaches to the relationship with Aruba. He highlighted the historical link between Aruba and Suriname, indicating that many Arubans have family roots in Suriname and vice versa.
"Having you here is an honor for us. In our community, we may see both Arubans residing in Suriname and people born in Suriname. The two countries have a long history together, having spent time jointly in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Mike Eman presented Minister Ramdin with a painting of an Aruban house that symbolizes the sustainability conviction that has lived in Aruba for many decades.
Minister Ramdin gave Prime Minister Eman a symbolic gift with significant cultural importance for his nation as a token of respect and gratitude for the strong ties between the two countries.
