The State Secretary, Mr. Zsolt Szabó, visits KIA
ORANJESTAD - Recently, the new State Secretary for Digitalization and Kingdom Relations, Mr. Zsolt Szabó, and his delegation visited the Aruba Correctional Institute (KIA).
The Minister of Justice and Social Affairs, Mr. Rocco Tjon, accompanied State Secretary Szabó, who was given a tour of the infrastructure and received a detailed explanation of the plans for KIA.
Two years ago, the restructuring of the KIA organization and the adjustment of the formation report took place to enable KIA to provide primary services and ensure the safety of its staff. Several projects are underway, structurally offering various programs to inmates in which they can follow courses and receive training. Additionally, there are projects outside KIA where inmates can perform community work.
They renewed the medical service and introduced a new working method, specifically for our youth, called the "Youturn Methodology." It is a method used in all correctional institutions in the Netherlands. The need for a new correctional facility remains a priority for the government, given the state of the building. They will soon develop a business case to present and discuss with the Netherlands to determine how to finance it.
The infrastructural aspect remains essential due to its impact on processes in terms of safety and what can be offered to the inmates, ensuring their successful resocialization and reintegration into the community.
