The community of the Dominican Republic celebrates the 181st anniversary of its independence.

ORANJESTAD – On February 27, 2025, the 181st anniversary of independence of the Dominican Republic is celebrated.

Outgoing Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes was present at the celebration and expressed that on this momentous day. Aruba is not only celebrating Independence Day with the people of the Dominican Republic but also the ties between Aruba and them. These ties began when there was the sugar industry, where several Arubians and Curaçaoans went to live and work there. Then came the season of the refinery industry in Aruba, followed by tourism, where many came back to establish themselves here.

As our liberator Betico Croes always stated, Arubian is not only the one who was born in Aruba, but also the one who made Aruba his home, and this is what the Prime Minister reminded each of them during her speech.

The Prime Minister congratulates the entire community of the Dominican Republic on their special day and thanks each of them who left their country and families to establish themselves here in Aruba. The cultural ties between Aruba and the Dominican Republic are also strong, and many are customs that we have adapted, such as merengue music.
