Revision of the Management of General Secondary Education 3.0.
ORANJESTAD – As part of our National Strategic Education Plan PEN 2030, the Department of Education is working on the policy revision of secondary education.
There are several reasons why this revision is necessary. We must ensure better alignment between the different education systems so that the transition is smoother when students leave primary school and complete secondary education (voortgezet onderwijs) to continue with advanced studies. We must ensure that students acquire the necessary competencies to function in society, in further studies (whether in Aruba or abroad), and in the labor market. Our education laws must also be modernized and adapted to the current generation's needs. Considering national and international developments, the role of the teacher in the learning process has also changed, and management must take this into account.
The process to reach new educational management
The process of developing new management includes studying literature and publications on the topic and conducting an extensive analysis of the current situation as well as the short- and long-term future needs. More than 500 stakeholders have been consulted in the process, both from within and outside the education system. They held consultation rounds, among others, school principals, heads of departments, teachers of grades 5 and 6, students from AVO, IPA, UA, and EPI, internal counselors, remedial teachers, care coordinators, members of the Youth Parliament, the Education Committee of the Parliament of Aruba, various government departments and care institutions, the Education Inspection Service, IPA, and UA.
Survey for the community
To also allow the general Aruban community to contribute to this process, a survey is available. The survey aims to gather more information regarding challenges in general secondary education. The topics addressed in the study relate to the learning environment at school, physical and socio-emotional aspects, quality of education, and educational structure.
We invite you to visit our website www.ea.aw and complete the survey. Every opinion matters, and every contribution is essential. In advance, DEA thanks you for contributing to this process.
