Presentation on Sustainable Development Goals

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD -  Schakel College recently organized a "Model United Nations Project Week" in which students learned about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the request of Schakel College, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Communication, and Sustainable Development, Geoffrey Wever, gave a presentation to students in the second year of mavo-havo-vwo. Interactively, he explained the sustainable development goals to the students, the challenges that require collaboration from all members of society, and the goals we can achieve through continuous action. The students showed interest and engagement in the topic and asked critical questions.
Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To achieve it there must be harmony between the human aspect, a balance in economic development and prosperity, and the protection of our environment.
The Sustainable Development Goals consist of 17 goals that countries strive to achieve in their national context. The goals include:
1.    End poverty;
2.    End hunger;
3.    Good health and well-being;
4.    Quality education;
5.    Gender equality;
6.    Clean water;
7.    Affordable and clean energy;
8.    Decent work and economic growth;
9.    Innovation and infrastructure;
10.    Reduced inequality;
11.    Sustainable cities and communities;
12.    Responsible production and consumption;
13.    Climate action;
14.    Life below water;
15.    Life on land;
16.    Peace, justice, and strong institutions;
17.    Partnership to achieve the goals.
