Official opening of the new office of the Department of Children and Youth (DMH)
ORANJESTAD - On November 1, 2024, the inauguration of the new office of the Department of Children and Youth took place.
Present was Minister of Justice and Social Affairs Rocco Tjon for this occasion.
Through a number of initiatives, such as protection codes, digital toolkits, and training for all industry experts, DMH is a department dedicated to protecting the safety of our children and youth. DMH also works closely with all Aruba child care facilities and is the driving force behind the childcare facilities ordinance that was enacted some time ago.
On October 1, 2022, the Department of Children and Youth was established. The government has chosen to establish the Department of Children and Youth, or DMH, following nearly two years of intense work on the formation report to execute the childcare facilities ordinance (Landsverordering (LV) Kinderopvang) and the International Treaties on the Rights of the Child effectively and efficiently.
DMH was part of the Social Crisis Plan which started at the end of 2018 and went into effect on October 1, 2022. This was in cooperation and partnership with 20 different partners on a total of 31 projects, with the main goal to improve and strengthen the national system of protection for our children and youth.
