Obligation to submit the donation list to the Finance Committee of the political party
ORANJESTAD - As of January 1, 2021, the Law on the Regulation of the Finances of Political Parties (AB2020 no. 153) is in force in Aruba.
The purpose of this law is to control the finances of political parties and candidates participating in the parliamentary elections. The Committee on the Finance of Political Parties (Finance Committee), chaired by the Electoral Council oversees the finances of all political parties and candidates. Recently, the Finance Committee was installed and for the first time, the Committee, as a whole, will monitor the finances of all parties and candidates throughout the electoral process. Therefore, the Finance Committee announces the rules, which apply to all political parties and candidates by law when participating in the parliamentary elections of December 6, 2024.
Key Requirements:
- Registration of donations: All parties and candidates must register the donations they received during the 12 months prior to the elections.
- Registration:The registration of donations, up to 21 days before the election, must be submitted to the Finance Committee. This must take place 21 to 14 days before the next election.
- Declaration of income and expenditure: They must also provide an overview of the income and expenses of their fundraising activities.
If these requirements are not met, the Finance Committee may request additional information and may also impose fines.
Publication of the donation:
- 7 days before the elections, the Finance Committee will publish an overview of the donations received by political parties and candidates.
- After the election, the political parties and candidates must submit a new summary within 7 days after the election, and the Finance Committee will publish a report 14 days after the election.
It is fundamental that all political parties and candidates, participating in the election of December 6, 2024, are aware of their obligations and comply with them to ensure financial transparency.
