Minister Wendrick Cicilia visited Aruba Ports Authority and received a presentation of the visionary project of Port City
ORANJESTAD - Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor mr. Wendrick Cicilia paid an official visit to the Aruba Ports Authority (APA) and met with the Board of Directors, APA’s CEO Marc Figaroa, and other executives and employees of the institution.
During the visit, Minister Cicilia received a detailed presentation on APA’s operations, which include two key terminals vital to Aruba’s economy: the Barcadera terminal, for the processing of container cargo, and the Oranjestad terminal, for the entry and exit of cruise tourists.
The presentation provided a broad overview of the current challenges and future opportunities in developing the port area. Mainly, a strategic area between the cruise terminal and Bushiri Beach. Minister Cicilia was impressed with the ambitious Masterplan to transform the former cargo terminal area near the cruise terminal Oranjestad into a new and reformed leisure, residential and working area: the Port City project.
Minister Cicilia expressed his appreciation for the vision of APA, noting that these initiatives are perfectly aligned with the strategic and sustainable direction of the government. The vacant area created after relocating the docks to Barcadera is a promising area for transformation. Its economic-social-financial potential is indisputable, but it must be developed to the direct benefit of the Aruban people. Therefore, Minister Cicilia called for ensuring that every step in the development of Port City is taken with transparency, dialogue, and respect for the wishes and thoughts of the community.
