May 17 is World Telecommunication & Information Society Day
ORANJESTAD - World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), observed on May 17 each year, commemorates the establishment of the United Nations Agency for Digital Technologies, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
On this day, ITU highlights a specific theme. WTISD 2024 is the opportunity to investigate how digital innovation might link people and enable sustainable prosperity for all.
Digital innovation is the fundamental motor of economic progress and world development. In the current digital landscape that is rapidly evolving, innovation is the synonym of growth opportunities and solutions to urgent social challenges.
WTISD also highlights the global digital divide. Unfortunately, progress is unevenly shared and leads to a global digital divide, the global disparities, primarily between developed and developing countries, regarding access to computing and information resources such as the Internet and the opportunities derived from such access.
Unfortunately, progress is not distributed equally and contributes to the global digital divide. It refers to differences in access to computing and information resources, such as the Internet, and the opportunities that come with them that exist globally, mostly between developed and developing nations.
We must reduce this divide to ensure that everyone, regardless of location or background, can benefit from the transformative power of technology,
You will find more information on initiatives and programs addressing this issue on the ITU website.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Communications, and Sustainable Development wishes every company and person contributing to telecommunication and information technology a happy World Telecommunication & Information Society Day.
