Inauguration Early Warning System (EWS).

ORANJESTAD— The Early Warning System (EWS), which provides notifications for early detection of natural disasters, was inaugurated Thursday morning, March 20, with Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes in attendance.

The sirens around Aruba give the first signal to those in the danger areas.

The prime minister added that she has participated in several conferences, meetings, and seminars both in the United Kingdom and at the United Nations, and the most important lesson she has learned is that being well-prepared is essential to recovering quickly and returning to normal after a disaster.

European Union funds financed this project. The Prime Minister is still President of the Overseas Countries and Territories Associations (OCTA), overseas countries with a relationship with the European Union, to access funds. The Prime Minister explained that she and Mr. Ady Thijsen in the Netherlands, as president of the executive committee, are fighting tirelessly to achieve for islands like Aruba to receive more funds. The prime minister also indicated that institutions in Aruba must apply to receive funds from the European Union. It is a slightly complicated but necessary process considering that these funds help to realize crucial projects for Aruba, like this one.

"I depart with a serene heart and immense pleasure in leaving behind a well-prepared Crisis Management Office (CMO), finally handing the torch to the incoming administration. I wish Mr. Hermans and his team all the best of luck and am incredibly proud of the hard work they have been putting in. The prime minister said, "It is an honor for me to help empower and strengthen them to make the foundation more robust so that they can continue to help Aruba move forward."
