Hearing care. Keep the decibel at 85.
ORANJESTAD—On January 24, 2025, the Department of Public Health of Aruba (DVG) officially published in the Official Journal (Landscourant) its policy for noise management for the benefit of hearing health.
For many years, DVG and various other stakeholders raised community awareness of hearing protection and the use of earplugs during musical activities. Now is the time for sound companies to join this important cause and reduce their noise to healthy levels for the ears of employees, spectators, young people, children, and the elderly. In a word, for the benefit of all of us.
Aruba is in full celebration of Carnival, a period known for having different musical activities either outdoors or in indoor spaces. Whatever the occasion, DVG gives advice on sound production in its policy.
Care of the ear of our community requires the action of the owner of the body to wear earplugs, but it also requires commitment and collaboration of technicians, sound companies, DJs, and other organizations, such as musicians who have recently been organizing or standing in events producing noise. The call is to all to take care of our ears, keeping the decibel at 85; in this way, we can all enjoy a Carnival season without damage to our ears.
