Groundbreaking of the Animal Welfare Center project

ORANJESTAD - The Ministry of Transport, Integrity, Nature, and Older Adults announced the groundbreaking phase for Aruba's first Animal Welfare Center (AWC).

The construction of AWC started on November 15, 2024, and will officially open its doors at the end of 2025. It will symbolize a giant step for animal welfare in Aruba and our community.

Since 2022, work has been underway on the Animal Welfare Center (AWC) project to create an animal welfare center in Kibaima. With the assistance of government departments and partners, the groundbreaking phase for Aruba's first Animal Welfare Center began. The Animal Welfare Center (AWC) will house, care for, and rehabilitate dogs, cats, and other household animals. It will also serve as a resource center where members of our community can go for information, assistance, and medical care for their pets or other animals.

This facility will house animals rescued from the streets or seized due to mistreatment. There will be special kennels to accommodate 60 dogs and 40 cats. They will receive care and rehabilitation and go through adoption to ensure animals get a second chance at life. There will also be a quarantine department for animals that enter Aruba illegally and a clinic to provide medical services to our animals.
