ORANJESTAD - On Tuesday, April 30, at Cas Ceremonial di Gobernador, the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, conducted an introductory interview with Mrs. Jolien Schukking, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (ECHR).

The ECtHR is an international judicial body that interprets and applies the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR also applies to Aruba. Ms. Schukking has taken a seat on the ECHR on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. However, judges in this court do not represent the State in their work, but sit in a personal capacity.

In the conversation between the Governor and Ms. Schukking, several themes in the field of human rights were discussed, including the recent climate jurisprudence of the ECHR.
