Governor of Aruba receives preliminary election results and begins consultation sessions

ORANJESTAD - In connection with the Parliamentary elections held on December 6, 2024, the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, received the chairman and deputy chairman of the chief electoral college, Mr. Rosslin Marchena and Mrs. Grasita Griffith, at the Governor's Office for an audience on Saturday, December 7, in the morning hours. 

The Governor, Mr. Marchena and Ms. Griffith discussed the conduct of the elections. Governor Boekhoudt was also informed of the preliminary election results. On Monday morning, December 9, 2024, the Governor will begin consultative meetings with advisory bodies and the framers. During the consultations, the Governor will seek advice on options for the formation of a new cabinet, given the results of the State elections. 

Governor Boekhoudt first speaks separately with the chairman of the Parliament, Mr. Raymond Kamperveen. Next, the Governor speaks successively with the Aruban member of the Aruba Financial Supervision Board, Mr. Marion Agunbero, the Chairman of the Advisory Council, Mr. David Kock, the Chairman of the Social Economic Council, Mr. Hose Figaroa and the President of the General Audit Office, Mrs. Xiomara Croes-Williams. 

For Tuesday, December 10, the Governor is inviting the leaders of the political parties that won at least one seat based on the preliminary election results. These are Mr. Wendrick Cicilia (AVP), Ms. Evelyn Wever-Croes (MEP), Ms. Gerlien Croes (Futuro) and Mr. Otmar Oduber (PPA). 

The consultation talks mark the beginning of the formation process to arrive at a new government for Aruba. The consultation talks are expected to conclude on Wednesday, December 11. The next step in the formation process is that, based on the outcome of the consultation talks, the Governor will appoint an informateur and formulate the assignment to this person.
