Governor appoints formators
ORANJESTAD - After the informateur, Mrs. Tisa LaSorte, presented her final report and the declaration of willingness of AVP and FUTURO for the formation of a new cabinet to the Governor of Aruba, His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, on December 27, 2024, Mr. Michiel G. Eman, party leader AVP, and Mrs. Gerlien L. Croes, party leader FUTURO, were received by the Governor on Monday January 14, 2025, as part of the formation procedure.
Mr. Eman and Ms. Croes were nominated by AVP and FUTURO, respectively, as candidate formators.
In line with the National Ordinance on Ministerial Integrity of December 17, 2021 (AB 2021, 203), both candidate formators were, with their consent, subjected to a judicial investigation as well as a state security investigation. The results of both investigations were communicated to the Chairman of the Advisory Council and the Governor.
Given the final report of the informateur, the signed declaration of willingness, and the outcome of the judicial and security investigation of both candidate formateurs, Governor Boekhoudt, on Tuesday, January 14, appointed Mr. Eman and Ms. Croes as formateurs. The Governor requested they form a stable cabinet that enjoys the confidence of the AVP and FUTURO party leaders in parliament that consists of persons willing and able to implement sound financial-economic policies, with attention to the cost of living in Aruba.
Part of the formation task is to draw up a coalition agreement between AVP and FUTURO and a portfolio division within the new cabinet. Finally, the appointability of candidates for the office of minister and minister plenipotentiary must be tested in advance based on the requirements and procedures established in the National Ordinance on the Integrity of Ministers.
By February 18, 2025, the formators shall report their findings in writing to Governor Boekhoudt. In the meantime, the formators will inform the governor verbally or, if necessary, in writing of the progress in the formation order execution.
The political party leaders in the parliament have been notified in writing of the formation order, and Mr. Eman and Ms. Croes have kept it under consideration. If the formation succeeds, the formators will, as usual, formally accept the assignment. An appeal has been made to the group leaders to cooperate fully in carrying out the formation assignment.
