DVG is registering an increase in COVID-19 cases

This is an old post.

ORANJESTAD - At a time when there is an increase in cases in our community, agencies such as family doctors, SVB, hospitals, and other care agencies feel its effect immediately under our community and through hospital admissions.

This is despite the fact that the virus is categorized as another virus on the long list of infectious respiratory diseases.

In the last five weeks, the Department of Public Health (DVG) noted an increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 through our surveillance system. One in three people tested positive for COVID. From May to July 2024, the hospital registered a total of 27 people admitted due to the COVID-19 virus, of which 3 were people over 75 years admitted to ICU.

COVID remains a virus of concern for the most vulnerable group of people in our community:

  • Citizens over 60 years of age;
  • children under two  years;
  • pregnant women;
  • citizens suffering from chronic diseases or with a weak immune system.

To this group of people, DVG advises them to avoid contact with sick people and avoid spaces where there are many people. Wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with unwashed hands, and always wash hands before eating.

The following signs and symptoms of COVID are comparable to those of other respiratory viruses:

  • Fever;
  • sore throat;
  • runny nose;
  • cough;
  • feeling exhausted or tired.

DVG advises anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms to get in touch with their family physician as soon as possible so that they can watch over and assist in their recuperation. Stay inside as much as possible and keep your distance from other people. Don not wait to seek medical attention at EHBO until you feel ill. By seeking early help from your family doctor, you can stay out of the hospital.
