Dengue leads to hospital admissions
ORANJESTAD - The Department for Public Health (DVG) closely monitors the Dengue situation in Aruba and reports that the hospital admitted two persons with Dengue.
One of these patients was discharged, while the other remains in the hospital with serious complications. Neither of these individuals has recently traveled, indicating that these are two cases of local Dengue transmission. Additionally, the DVG warns the community of Dengue cases to increase for this season.
DVG advises the public to be vigilant for symptoms of Dengue, such as fever, headache, abdominal pain or nausea, diarrhea, muscle pain, eye pain, and rash. If there is suspicion of infection, consult your doctor. It is crucial to inform your doctor of the day you began feeling ill so that they do appropriate laboratory tests.
The DVG urges the population to take more responsibility and vigilance in jointly eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
We must continue to follow preventive measures:
- Check all places inside and outside the home, at work, and at school where water can accumulate, such as flower pots, tires, buckets, etc., and remove them;
- Treat containers that contain water constantly every 14 days with special "granules" to kill mosquito larvae;
- Protect yourself from mosquito bites.
The Yellow Fever Mosquito Control (GKMB) has intensified its inspections and preventive measures in recent weeks, considering the growing number of cases in Aruba. GKMB will provide sachets of special "granules" to kill mosquito larvae. These "granules" can be spread in containers, barrels, and other objects where water is constantly present, and mosquitoes can lay their eggs.
These "granules" are available at the DVG office in Oranjestad with our receptionist from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm and also at our GKMB section at Barcadera 1D from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The bag of "granules" is free, and you can get one bag per family /household/business.
The DVG calls on the population to continue following the preventive measures together to combat mosquito breeding sites. DVG continues to monitor the situation and will take additional measures if necessary.
