DEACI and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection collaborating in the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) by organizing stakeholder workshops.

ORANJESTAD -The Department of Economic Affairs, Commerce and Industry together with its Exprodesk unit, under the economic supervision of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Communications, and Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Trade Agreements Branch and the Textile & Trade Agreements Division of the U.S. Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a two-day workshop to be held on November 12 and 13, 2024.

These adjustments are intended to strengthen Aruba's position as a beneficiary under the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act (CBERA) and achieve beneficiary status under the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA). Experts from the Trade Agreements Branch and the Textile & Trade Agreements Division of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection will make their expertise available in Aruba to help Aruba take full advantage of the benefits of this trade agreement.

The two-day workshop will benefit the Customs of Aruba, DEZHI's unit Exprodesk, Free Zone Aruba (FZA), the Aruba Trade & Industry Association (ATIA), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Aruba (KvK). Special guests for these meetings will be: the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao (MEO), the Customs of Curaçao, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Curaçao, and other relevant institutions.

These specialists will assist the government departments and institutions of Aruba and Curaçao to improve their support of the export sector and to maximize the benefits of CBERA and CBTPA and thus increase the contribution to the economy of Aruba and the Caribbean.
