Consumer Protection law draft approved by the Council of Ministers
ORANJESTAD – The Council of Ministers approved a new consumer protection law draft on October 1, 2024.
They will forward it to the Council of Advice. Aruba has never had a consumer protection law, and this is now a step closer to becoming a reality.
This new law will grant the Aruba Fair Trade Authority (AFTA) the authority to monitor whether there are violations of consumer rights and impose administrative fines in some cases. Additionally, the law will formally task AFTA with informing consumers and businesses about consumer rights. The consumer protection law improves the position of every citizen as a consumer and helps raise the quality of the economy, making it more inclusive.
The task of the AFTA is to promote fair competition in our market once Parliament approves this law. It will inform customers of their rights and shield ing them from unfair business practices
