Avianca now flies four times a week to Medellin.

ORANJESTAD - The Aruba Airport Authority N.V. announced additional flights to and from Aruba.

After much negotiation, deliberation, and preparation, Aruba convinced Avianca to expand its frequencies to Aruba, flying to and from Medellín, Colombia.

At the end of January of this year, Avianca management informed the executives of the Aruba Airport Authority, the Aruba Tourism Office, and the Aruba Ministry of Tourism that they would be adding four more flights per week. Avianca made moves in its itinerary and aircraft schedule to locate extra aircraft and thus be able to serve the Aruba market, known for being a mature and continuously growing market.

The first flight from Medellín arrived in Aruba last Sunday and will continue four times a week.

AUA Airport celebrates the announcement of a new route. It takes after all at least two years of intense negotiations to achieve it. We must bear in mind that no airline has enough fleet after the pandemic, as it is a challenge to remove a route that is not successful or profitable to open another. For Aruba as a destination, this means that not only was a new route achieved, but it is also crucial to maintain it, supporting and promoting it so that it can fly full, but also quickly the airline can choose to make a change. But in this case, Avianca recognized the value of Aruba and changed its itinerary, including our island for four additional flights.

The second gateway

It becomes Avianca's second gateway for Colombia, based on the  Bogotá-Aruba route. In addition to the Medellín route with Avianca, Wingo is complemented with its current offer, giving travelers more options and flexibility. Without a doubt, this new direct route from Medellín will be a boost for our tourism, seeing that it makes it easier for Colombian tourists, as well as those who are near Colombia, to reach Aruba.

Medellín four times a week

They will add no less than four additional weekly flights, which will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The schedules are convenient, and the passengers will be in Medellín soon. Upon arrival, the passenger can enjoy the city or catch a connecting flight the airline offers.

Flight details

The Medellín-Aruba route will be in operation four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, starting June 2, 2024.
