On behalf of AAA and the Airport community, Angeline Flemming, Director of Health and Sustainability, collected this honor.
The ACI-LAC Green Airport Recognition program by Airport Council International (ACI) aims to promote environmental best practices to minimize aviation’s impact on the environment and to recognize airport members who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in their environmental projects. This year, ACI-LAC Airport Members were able to submit their outstanding projects under the category of Circular Economy encompassing efficient use of resources by optimizing the consumption of water and energy, extension of the lifecycle by prolonging the useful life of products and materials, and waste minimization by reducing the amount of waste that goes to final disposal.
As part of Aruba Airport’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact, sustainability has been incorporated into every aspect of airport operations to achieve various initiatives in three categories: sustainable aviation, sustainable operation, and sustainable airport community. An essential part of AAA’s efforts to become more sustainable is the Gateway 2030 Phase 1A Terminal Expansion project, which project represents a significant investment in modernizing and innovating the airport to overcome capacity constraints and deliver a world-class airport experience whilst building a healthy, highly efficient, and cost-savings building.
Additionally, Aruba Airport has increased its efforts in collecting, monitoring, and managing sustainability performance data to develop environmental policy plans, including sustainable waste management. It will soon introduce new measures to improve waste handling, disposal, and recycling efforts.
With various Airport Sustainability Certifications as the basis for current and future projects and initiatives, Aruba Airport leads by example by adopting sustainable and environmental best practices and continuously inspiring organizations on a national and regional level to do the same.
