Who is at risk of getting complications from Measles?

ORANJESTAD - Any person can get Measles, but there is a high-risk group in our community that can get seriously ill from it.

That is why this group must be aware of the dangers of Measles. It includes:

  • Children under the age of five not vaccinated against measles;
  • Persons with weak and compromised immune systems;
  • Pregnant women.

The Aruban community has a high vaccination rate of 95%. It is the reason this vaccinated group protects the unvaccinated (Herd Immunity). When traveling to a country where measles is prevalent, unvaccinated persons need to be conscious of their higher risk of getting the virus.
It is unknown who is vaccinated or not against Measles.

Therefore, it is essential to protect yourself and be aware of:

  • What measles entails;
  • how it is transmitted
  • the symptoms of measles;
